TalkTalk Takes Home the Sustainability Award at the Comms National Awards

I’m delighted to announce that TalkTalk has won the Sustainability Award at the 2023 Comms National Awards.

It was a successful night overall for TalkTalk as we also were Highly Commended for Best Network and Best Channel Portal; congratulations to all the teams involved.

So, what was it about our sustainability entry which caught the judges’ attention?

First and foremost, our entry showed the business case for action – with 50% of Request for Purchase (RFP) questionnaires forecasted to have environmental questions in them, working with partners who have demonstrated emissions reductions is more important than ever.

We also demonstrated our very strong track record of action. TalkTalk’s series of energy efficiency innovations in our data centres have led to a remarkable 79% decrease in emissions, and industry leading commitments to go even further this decade. Overall, we’ve reduced our scope 1&2 emissions by 94% over the past five years, demonstrating an emphatic drive for sustainability. And recently, we had our near-term Science Based Targets validated, which is a gold standard measurement for corporate sustainability, only given after a rigorous assessment.

I want to say a big thank you to Adelle, Edd, Kieran, Sal, Alex, Ben, Toby, Naime and Matt of the #NetZeroHeroes committee; Kat, Toni, Sophie and Neil, the sustainability leads; and Aimee, Agathe, Susie; Mark, Andy and the data centre teams for driving the sustainability agenda and making the award happen.

At TalkTalk, we take our responsibility towards the environment seriously and are guided by our strategy, as outlined in our environment policy, to focus on four key areas:

  1. Carbon – we’re reviewing every link of our supply chain to get to Net Zero.
  2. Materials – we’re working with our suppliers to minimise waste, embrace circularity and create truly sustainable products.
  3. People – we’re empowering our employees to make sustainable lifestyle choices.
  4. Communities – we’re maximising the power of our services to support wider decarbonisation efforts.
