The role

As a Project Architect here at TalkTalk, you’ll lead on the Architecture Strategy for your owned domains. You will document and present that strategy to other architects and key stakeholders. You will then define the Architecture for any business changes required to support company objectives. You will maintain an end-to-end view of the overall solution, ensuring it aligns with strategy or adapting that strategy if required .

The team

The Architecture Practice contains Enterprise, Project and Lead Solution Architects teams that work across all functional areas of TalkTalk.

The team for this specific role focusses on the Architecture for Telco BSS (Business Support Systems) but needs to covering full end to end solutions including OSS (Operating Support Systems) as well as integrations with external systems.

The product set spans broadband (fibre and copper), VoIP, Routers, TV (including Over The Top TV Services). We must Architect systems that are agile and adaptable in a highly competitive market.

Key Responsibilities

Project Architecture

  • Take accountability for the architecture of one or more domains to drive the strategy working with other architects to help our enterprise architecture strategy.
  • Present and review Architecture initiatives at the Architecture Review Board and Tech Strategy Board.
  • Lead the development of project architectures in specific business, infrastructure or functional areas
  • Within a change programme, lead the preparation of technical plans
  • Provide advice on technical aspects of solution development and integration (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc.) and ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.

Supporting Changes

  • Oversee the Architecture and Design of medium and complex changes
  • The Project Architect will give an Architecture Steer aligned with their own strategy and will support the Design team in creation of Solution Architecture and Design
  • Review others' Architecture to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology
  • Contribute to development of architecture policies, standards and selection of architecture components.

Relationship Management

  • You’ll identify the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups, whilst facilitating open communication and discussion between stakeholders, acting as a single point of contact by developing, maintaining and working on stakeholder engagement strategies and plans, to facilitate business decision-making processes
  • Actively maintaining recognised expert-level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms, you’ll oversee the provision of specialist advice by others, and consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organisational objectives.

To be successful in this role

You’ll have experience in carrying out the architect responsibilities defined above in at least one medium project from inception to completion, in addition to:

Essential:

  • Creating solution architecture/designs as a Project Architect or similar.

  • Technical expertise to guide and mentor technical staff, influence the technical direction, and work closely with wider architecture and solution design.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of telecoms products and system architecture
  • Experience of “Digital First” Solutions and Customer Online Platforms
  • Experience of working in a matrix managed team
  • Experience of agile and DevOps working practices.
