Responsible Business

As part of our ongoing Group focus on delivering fair connectivity for everyone, we focus on four areas where we can make the biggest difference as a responsible business.

  • Reducing our carbon impact

  • Using materials responsibly

    Engaging our people

  • Supporting customers and communities

Environment

We want to play a meaningful role in the low carbon economy. Our biggest environmental impact comes from operating the network and powering broadband for homes and businesses, so this is where we focus our efforts.

Our targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, and we support the UK goal to reach net zero by 2050.

We have already made strong progress. We met our ten-year goal in 2020 to cut the carbon intensity of our network by 80%. The carbon footprint of our Operations and Network reduced by 56% between 2015 and 2025. We are making progress in replacing diesel used in the generators at our data centre with a lower-carbon alternative, supporting further reductions.

People and communities

We aim to contribute to our local community and strive to be the best employer in the North West for colleagues of all backgrounds. We support our vulnerable customers with tailored support and alternative communication formats on request, and we offer a compassionate bereavement service to provide comprehensive support during difficult times.

Protecting customers is a key part of our commitment. TalkTalk is a signatory to the UK Telecommunications Fraud Sector Charter, a government-backed agreement that unites major providers behind shared action to prevent fraud and reduce scam calls and texts. TalkTalk’s free HomeSafe add-on helps keep customers protected while browsing online, and the innovative CallSafe add-on screens incoming calls to deter scammers and give our customers peace of mind. Additionally, TalkTalk is listed in the Inclusive Top 50 UK companies and is a member of Inclusive Companies, having access to a variety of diversity and inclusion resources. TalkTalk also supports the Safer Internet Centre and Childnet through participation in the annual Safer Internet Day event.

TalkTalk colleagues are encouraged to take part in volunteering and community support, with paid Give Something Back days each year. Across TalkTalk and PXC, we support a range of community and inclusion partners, including the National Literacy Trust, the Dunstone Education Trust, Salford Foodbank and Ambitious About Autism, reflecting our focus on opportunity, inclusion, and online safety.

Governance and responsible business

Strong governance matters to the way we operate. We take a risk-based approach to supply chain standards and modern slavery.

To support a strong culture of integrity, we have compulsory annual anti-fraud and security training so colleagues are clear on how to identify concerns and raise them.
