Ultrafast broadband lands in York

New state-of-the-art ultrafast broadband network now open for registration
Speeds 100 times faster than standard broadband
Huntington and Groves can vote to say they want Ultra Fibre Optic in their area
York set to become the UK’s first Ultra Fibre Optic city

Sky and TalkTalk have announced that Ultra Fibre Optic, the new ultrafast broadband service for York, is now open for registration at www.UltraFibreOptic.co.uk.

A year ago the leading broadband providers announced plans to build the new state-of-the-art network in York, in partnership with infrastructure company CityFibre. Construction has already begun in Rawcliffe and Clifton and those wishing to take the service will be able to connect before the end of the year.

Now residents and businesses in Huntington and Groves are being asked to vote to show their support for Ultra Fibre Optic to come to their area. In doing so they can also nominate a local good cause to benefit from connection to the ultrafast broadband network.

To mark the arrival of Ultra Fibre Optic, Sky and TalkTalk lit up iconic York landmarks and streets in Rawcliffe. York Minster, The Shambles and Cobham Way – one of the first streets to benefit from the new network – were all illuminated in celebration of York becoming the UK’s first Ultra Fibre Optic city.

The future of broadband

Ultra Fibre Optic offers speeds 100 times faster than standard broadband which means homes that have it can download a HD movie in less than 30 seconds, 100 photos in less than 5 seconds, and an album in a second. For businesses, it will improve productivity and the ability to better compete both locally and nationally.

Cllr Chris Steward, Leader of City of York Council said: “It is great to see this project is continuing to progress and we’re delighted York is the first city to benefit from Ultra Fibre Optic. Ultrafast broadband will help boost the local economy and provide a better quality service for residents and businesses across the city.”

Vote for faster homes and smarter businesses in Huntington and Groves

Residents and businesses in Huntington and Groves are being asked to vote to say they want UFO to come to their area. If enough people in Huntington and Groves vote, Sky and TalkTalk will also connect a nominated good cause in the community with ultrafast broadband. It could be a local charity, community hub or a good cause that supports the local area.

Advertising of Ultra Fibre Optic has already begun appearing in York, including billboards, posters on buses around the city, and radio and digital advertising. Residents will be able to find out more by visiting road shows coming to Vangarde Shopping Centre, Monks Cross Shopping Park and Clifton Moor Retail Park every weekend until September.
