The role
In this new and exciting role of Software Delivery Manager, you’ll be joining TalkTalk at a pivotal time.
The telecoms industry is changing at pace. As the availability of high speed internet products increases throughout the UK, you will play a key role in delivering the software systems that will enable TalkTalk to gain market share, migrate existing customers and to manage and retain our existing base.
You will lead the delivery of varied software projects required to build the TalkTalk of the future. We are introducing new technologies, increasing our use of automation and migrating functions to the cloud.
You will take ownership of projects that drive delivery of our broader business plan, working closely with your Head of Department, Technical Programme Managers and business stakeholders to keep things on track and deliver to plan and budget.
You will be instrumental in setting up new workstreams as initiatives begin throughout the year. You will work closely with our suppliers to govern the engagements, holding them to account, and challenging them to deliver value and technical excellence.
You will not simply be a manager. You will be someone who understands and enjoys technology and who wants to get into the details. You will bring your knowledge and experience to influence technical decisions at all stages of the software development lifecycle.

The team
We’re a large energetic software engineering team in TalkTalk with a vast array of experiences. We build and maintain some of the most critical systems that underpin TalkTalk's national infrastructure in areas such as Order Management, Assurance, Online and Billing.
This is a full stack environment. You will be working with a wide range of technologies from COTS products to programming languages, databases to web frameworks and everything in between. We focus on technical excellence, where our code, tests, processes, and practices all have quality at their heart.
Your responsibilities:
You’ll be responsible for managing delivery by several squads working across multiple projects, ensuring time and to quality metrics are met and providing reporting to management and other stakeholders.
You’ll set up and maintain contractual service relationships with partners to that deliver professional services to a high standard. You will ask suppliers for proposals, engage in vendor selection and oversee contracts to deliver outcome-based projects that deliver business change whilst maintaining regulatory and quality standards such as ISO9001.
You’ll work closely with the head of the department and your peers to ensure we have the right resources in place to deliver our business goals. You will engage with our squads to manage the backlogs and plans sprints that align with the business roadmap.
You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, architects, product owners and others to shape work in the demand pipeline, ensuring the best technical decisions are made and the epics and features are fit to be brought into our squads.
You’ll contribute to the management of risks and issues, including owning and managing mitigation and resolution.
You will manage costs and ensure all teams provide value and deliver an excellent product.
You will manage incidents from through to resolution, ensuring your squads deliver fixes within the agreed timescales and with a first-time fix approach. You will work with your squads to reduce the rate of production incidents and improve quality.
You’ll establish strategic goals to support department objectives, whilst collaborating with the technology and business leaders to optimise delivery by our squads, including the establishment of multi-layer, collaborative engagement across multiple areas of the technology and commercial organization.
You’ll provide leadership in multi-team forums (e.g., working groups, guilds) and define continuous improvement initiatives that are adopted across multiple squads.
You’ll work closely with the head of the department, TPM and product owners to stay abreast of the goals and deliverables across the department’s estate for both the quarter and the year.
To be successful in this role you will have
Essential:
Proven experience as a Software Delivery Manager, Software Engineering Manager or similar in a fast-paced technology environment.
Proven experience managing software delivery through the full life cycle across multiple squads or teams.
Experience working with enterprise software solutions in medium and large organisations, in industries such as telecoms, finance, healthcare, government or retail.
A pragmatic approach to Agile, ensuring processes are aligned with development and test best practices to improve quality and velocity.
Influence on technical direction and close collaboration with architecture and solution design teams.
The drive to work under your own initiative and autonomously engaging with relevant stakeholders.
The ability to assess and articulate the benefits of business change and communicate a collective understanding and clear direction.
Proficiency in delivering accurate reporting and well-delivered presentations.
Experience with tools such as JIRA and/or Azure DevOps.
Desirable:
Previous solid experience in a software development background, such as a Software Developer or Test Engineer.
Experience within the telecommunications industry.
