Salford, 8th March (International Women’s Day): Salford-based connectivity provider, TalkTalk, is celebrating the success of a brand-new apprenticeship for female managers by revealing that eight out of the eleven on the course have been promoted during the programme. It was launched last year with programme provider Raise The Bar.
The 15-month Level 5 Women in Leadership apprenticeship focuses on mindset, barriers to development, imposter syndrome, personal branding, future talent and more. It aims to give confidence to female leaders in their current roles and help them meet their potential.
TalkTalk is led by a female CEO, Tristia Harrison, who is the executive sponsor of the apprenticeship cohort within the business and was recently awarded an honorary degree from The University of Salford for her work promoting women into tech roles. 40% of the company’s Executive Committee are female and in 2021, the connectivity provider created and launched the TalkTalk North West Women in Tech awards with the number of nominees and attendees growing year on year.
Amy Higgins, Head of Insights and Analytics at TalkTalk, started the course as an Insights Manager with a team of three direct reports, and has since been promoted to lead the whole function.
She said: “Since starting the course, my biggest achievement has been the ability to lead through change whilst raising the profile of the team across the business. We were recently referred to as a team “buried” within the organisation. A lot of my focus has been repositioning the output of the team at a senior level and we are now seeing better engagement. It’s been heart-warming to see increased recognition of insights and analytics through our people and we now have dedicated senior sponsorship for the department. I’m excited to see where the team goes this year.”
The joint initiative between TalkTalk and Raise The Bar has an emphasis on celebrating Women in Leadership and diversity as a whole. Karen Quinn, Leadership & Management Coach from Raise the Bar, said: “It’s been a pleasure to support this first cohort of Women in Leadership through their apprenticeship journey. We’ve watched them grow in confidence and for many, have seen them climb the career ladder within the business through a genuine determination and desire to succeed.”
The Women in Leadership programme is also available to study at Level 3 to empower aspiring managers looking to address topics such as stereotyping and unconscious bias.
