As mums look forward to being taken to lunch, bought flowers and made breakfast in bed on Mothering Sunday, new research has revealed it is the 7pm Monday call that does the job for the remaining 51 weeks of the year.
Research from TalkTalk shows that 7pm on Monday is the time when most people make landline calls to their mums with the average call lasting 22 minutes. The most popular topics of conversation are the family, relationships and jobs - as well as our favourite TV shows.
Mums are top on their children's call lists receiving double the amount of calls than dads, grandparents and other siblings.
Many look forward to their weekly catch up to share their escapades with mum. However 40% are less enthused to call home and see it as an obligation, grouping the 'duty call' with other tedious tasks such as renewing car tax, paying bills, booking a dentist appointment and other chores consigned to Monday’s to do list.
It emerged that the Northern Irish are the most tied to the apron strings with the largest percentage calling their mums on a daily basis. Conversely, one in ten North East residents admitted to making calls to their mums less than once a month.
Tristia Harrison of TalkTalk, said “Few of us have our parents nearby, so it’s great to see so many making time for a weekly phone call with mum. Staying in touch with the family near or afar is so important, that's why we have our great value monthly Call Boosts.
They provide additional landline minutes for a flat fee, making it easy for TalkTalk homes to stay close to loved ones without the concern of hefty charges.’’
