The Grand Tour and TalkTalk
Britain’s 'love them or hate them' trio return to our screens in what is set to be one of the most highly anticipated TV shows of the year. Fans of Clarkson, Hammond and May have been eagerly awaiting The Grand Tour’s arrival on Amazon Prime, where it is available to stream every Friday. My team at TalkTalk have been working behind the scenes to make sure the network has enough fuel in the tank to cope with the extra demand when people tune in to watch the show.
As the show is filmed in ultra high definition 4K, and then streamed on Amazon Prime, there could potentially be tens of thousands of our customers watching it every Friday. That’s why we’ve just invested an extra 100Gb capacity into the core network to cope with the demand we expect to see, putting our Technology team into action so our customers can have a flawless viewing experience.
The growing trend to stream shows, and watch whenever you want, is only going to become even more popular for our customers in the future. That’s why we need to make sure our network stays ahead of the game. In total, we’ve added an extra 200GBps of capacity specifically for Amazon video content including the Grand Tour.
Personally, I’m looking forward to it as the opening sequence alone is a Mad Max-style chase across the Californian desert involving 150 cars, 2,000 extras, stilt-walkers, fire-eaters and a squadron of jets... Stig who? It certainly would not be the same without a little decadence and questionable antics. Our customers want to watch the best TV and I’m proud that our technology team and network are ready to support it.
So, who else is watching this weekend?
