Internet safety

The internet is at the heart of our homes and we believe everyone should be able to enjoy it without worrying about the safety of their family. Along with all the benefits that the internet brings, there are risks both for children and for adults. These days 1 in 5 people are a victim of online crime and the majority of parents worry about what their children might look online.

We’re committed to making sure TalkTalk homes have the safest broadband. That’s why we introduced HomeSafe™, the first and only network level security service.

HomeSafe™

Exclusively available for TalkTalk customers free of charge, HomeSafe™ is built into our network and protects every device using the connection. We believe it empowers parents to protect their children online, allow them to quickly and easily control how the internet is used in their home. It has three key features:

  • KidsSafe – allows the TalkTalk account holder to block the content they don’t want to be accessed through their connection, such as pornography, violence and gambling.
  • Homework Time – this allows parents to block social networking sites like Facebook and online gaming which are common sources of distraction for school children from their homework.
  • Virus Alerts – a simple click will enable an alert system which blocks web pages infected with any kind of malware, to protect customers’ computers and other devices;

Complete Safety and Security

We recognise that there is no silver bullet when it comes to internet safety, and that no technical solution alone can solve the problem.

Through our work with experts in areas like child internet safety, viruses and ID theft, we’ve amassed a lot of knowledge and experience in how to protect yourself online which we share with our customers through our online safety hub. We’re also working with Brent Council to support them with the internet safety training for parents and young people.

Finally, TalkTalk is a member of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) which brings together over 170 organisations and individuals from government, industry, law enforcement, academia and charities to help keep children and young people safe online.
