Digital inclusion

There are over eight million people in the UK who have never been online. We’re committed to helping everyone harness the power of the internet. We’re focussed on empowering the ‘digitally excluded’, and improving the communities in which we work. That’s why we support and run a number of initiatives to help bridge the digital divide.

TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards

We have sponsored these awards, run in conjunction with charity Citizens Online and The Daily Mirror, since 2009. The awards aim to reward amazing individuals, nominated by their communities, who use digital technology in the most socially positive way. We awarded £65,000 in grants to 12 regional finalists in 2011, including £10,000 to the 2011 TalkTalk Digital Hero.

The 2011 TalkTalk Digital Hero was judged to be Chris Dredger of charity Storybook Dads, a project that helps maintain the vital emotional bond between prisoners and their children by helping offenders to record bedtime stories on CD or DVD. The £10,000 grant will buy Storybook Dads new video equipment to roll the project out to more prisons, as well as helping their planned project with the Armed Forces. Learn more

Go ON UK

TalkTalk is a founding sponsor of this charity, launched in April 2012, alongside the likes of Age UK, BBC and Big Lottery Fund. Together we pledge to work with the government to help make the UK the world's most digitally capable nation. We were a partner of its predecessor, Race Online 2012. Aside from our lending our online safety and digital inclusion expertise, we have donated office space above our Customer Experience Centre in central London, as well as funding. Learn more

In addition, 2012 will see us support several grass roots digital inclusion projects in our local communities. More soon.
